about

RML Power’s design, development, and manufacturing capabilities extend across RML’s powertrain facility, which includes a 10,000 sq. ft. manufacturing area for battery systems and bespoke engine builds. This is complemented by in-house cell characterisation, laser welding, and end-of-line testing equipment, all integral to our battery manufacturing process. RML delivers both high-power and high-energy battery systems optimised for each application using our cutting-edge technologies, developed through years of experience and pushing the boundaries in automotive, motorsport, and off-highway industries.

We have designed, developed, and built some of the world’s highest-performing and most efficient BEV, hybrid, and internal combustion powertrains. By applying motorsport culture and design philosophies, we tackle challenges with emerging technologies, providing rapid development for our partners while breaking records and winning awards for innovation.

Case Study: Nissan ZEOD RC

RML Group

The revolutionary Nissan ZEOD RC (Zero Emissions On Demand Race Car) stands as a remarkable showcase of innovation, achieving the first-ever electric-only racing lap of the Le Mans 24-Hour circuit in 2014.We played a pivotal role in developing and running this groundbreaking petrol-electric sports racer for Nissan at Garage 56—the dedicated grid slot reserved for cars that push the boundaries of technology and innovation.

With its ultra-lightweight, low-drag design, the ZEOD RC was engineered for maximum performance. The total race weight, including the driver, car, and fluids, was an astonishing 700kg. This made it one of the most agile and efficient race cars ever designed.

The heart of the ZEOD RC's breakthrough powertrain was a 400bhp, 40kg, three-cylinder 1.5-litre petrol engine—meticulously designed and developed in-house at RML. This was paired with two 110kW electric motors, powered by a 400V, 12.5kWh, 280kW battery pack, custom-designed to meet the demands of electric racing.

These advanced electrical components were integral in rewriting the history books at Le Mans. On the Mulsanne Straight, the ZEOD RC reached speeds of over 300km/h (186mph) on electric power alone, marking a significant achievement in the development of sustainable motorsport technology.
